It’s almost here! The holiday that all the singles dread….Valentines Day. If you ask any single woman how they feel about the holiday I can almost guarantee most will say they are not a fan. It’s the holiday that reminds singles we are alone. I have also heard it called Singles Awareness Day. Bottom line – single woman HATE this Hallmark holiday. Just because you do not have a significant other does not mean you need to spend the holiday alone. Why not have a get together with some of your other girlfriends who are single. Or if you feel like you don’t have any single friends (which I’m sure you do!) then try to break your taken friends away from their significant others the day before Valentine’s Day!
In my post How to Host a Fun and Creative Holiday Party, I talked about a party I held during the Christmas season with some of my closest girlfriends. After thinking about it, I realized that I could do the same thing for a Valentines Day party or Galentine’s (girls only!) Day Party.
Galentine’s Day is not something I made up. It is an actual event! It can be held on February 14th or February 13th (for those who have significant others but still want to celebrate their girlfriends. For my post we are celebrating it on February 14th.
What you will need to think about when planning your Galentine’s Day party:
Obviously the theme is based around Valentines day but you should decide if you want it to be anti-valentines day or the common valentines day theme. I found some great ideas on Pintrest for both:
For a friendly Valentines Day party check out what SugarCharm suggests. For a more anti-valentines themed party look what Moms & Munchkins came up with. For me, I think having an all out anti-valentines day party would be too negative for me so I would choose to do a little of both.
This is where I think you can get really creative. I really liked the Broken Heart sugar cookies that Mom’s & Munchkins designed. And just think, if you make heart-shaped cookies and break them in half, it’s half that calories! Some other ideas I would include in my party would be dark chocolate covered strawberries – I mean seriously, how can you have a Galentine’s Day party and not have chocolate covered strawberries! A pizza in the shape of a heart (this could also be an activity – make your own pizza!).
Or, you can have everyone bring a plate and ask it to be valentine or anti-valentine’s day themed and see how creative your girlfriends can be!
For those who know me, you know I like mine wine and beer. For this party I think it would be nice to have a variety of red wines because we are told that red wine is good for the heart – get it?! I also found some really creative mixed drinks that could be a hit at your party.
One Fab Day also has a lot of cute alcoholic and non-alcoholic recipes!
I’m not sure why, but I have been so in to including some sort of fun activity at my get-together. I feel like it’s a great way to help start-up a conversation and to see what special talents your friends have that you may not have known about! In my opinion, I think it’s a good idea to do something that your friends can take home and use. Here are a few ideas I discovered:
For someone who is single and has been single for a long time, I like the idea of hosting a party like this. Rather than bash the holiday (I used to call Valentine’s Day Black-whatever day of the week it fell on.) why not show appreciate for people you love in your life-like your girlfriends.
Happy Galentine’s Day to all my girlfriends out there!
