Valentine’s Day….a day that most single women dread. The Hallmark Holiday reminds people of their relationship status whether it be good or bad, ugly or lovely. Well ladies, I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be this way! I recently just finished reading an article on Mashable about this woman who is spending Valentine’s Day alone and why she is OK with it. It got me to thinking that Valentine’s Day can actually be one of the greatest holiday’s for singles! Why you ask? Because the day can be all about you and no one else! You don’t have to worry about buying gifts, making dinner reservations, cooking dinner or stressing out that everything has to be perfect for your significant other.
Thinking back on my past Valentine’s Day celebrations, I have had some great one’s and some not so great ones, both with a significant other and alone. One of my greatest Valentine’s Day’s was with my ex-boyfriend when we were “on a break” – like that Friends quote? We both weren’t dating anyone at the time and he asked me if I wanted to hang out that night. We ended up going to a sports bar and getting wings and then headed to the movies to watch an action movie that was out at the time. No gifts, no planning no worrying that everything had to be perfect. Just a normal night out. I think the reason why I remember it so well and appreciated it so much was because it was so chill and there were no expectations!
This year, I am single once again. I know I could call the same guy up and have the same night with him. I could sit and home and cry about it, but I don’t want to! I want to make this day all about me! I am at a place where I am so comfortable and so content about where I am in my life that I want to celebrate ME!!! So what will my day look like?
Sunday, February 14th, 2016
- Sleep in till about 8am-8:30am
- Enjoy 1-2 cups of hot coffee – my absolute favorite thing to do on the weekends
- Attend church at 10am
- Lunch and a celebration viewing party for one of my close friends who will be on National TV! – celebrating a friends accomplishments always makes me happy
The rest of the day I do not have planned out and I don’t want to have a schedule, but it will only include things that I want to do to celebrate ME!
- buy myself a new outfit
- take a nap
- have another cup of coffee and read the book I’m currently reading
- watch a movie on the couch
I like not having an agenda but having the goal to make it all about myself for one day. How often to we make our days about everyone else? Take this one day (especially since the holiday falls on the weekend for those of you who work 9-5 jobs) and make it about yourself. Schedule a massage! Do something you don’t normally do for yourself! Celebrate YOU! I promise you, you won’t feel so bad about the Hallmark holiday when you have a new outfit in your hand!
