I recently read this article on the Huffington Post website, 11 Signs Of A Genuine Friendship. It’s pretty accurate and I agreed with most of it. In this day in age I think it can be pretty tough to find a genuine friendship that can last a life time. I think I am pretty lucky to have quite a few genuine friends in my life that I don’t see going anywhere any time soon. I have friends from high school, friends from college and even friends that I have met just a few years ago that I know will be in my life for a very long time.
However, if you are one of those lucky people like me, you have that one friend that has always stuck by your side through the good times and the bad times (hopefully more good than bad!). They have been around pretty much all your life if not your whole life. They have heard or seen your ugly cry and maybe some bad drunken nights. They always listen to you vent even if its over the stupid guy who has broken your heart over and over and over again and you know they are pretty sick of hearing about it.
It’s that one friend that can annoy the heck out of you sometimes and you can annoy the heck out of them but at the end of the day you love them and they love you and you both would do anything for each other. When you start to think about them not in your life you start to tear up and there is no reason to even be thinking about that!
It’s that one friend that you can be crazy and stupid in front of and know that they are just going to laugh at you or join in with you. You would never act this way in front of anyone else because you would be mortified! You can burp and fart in front of them and not think twice about it (just kidding, girls don’t do that! ).
For someone who is in their mid-thirties and single with no immidiate family of their own, it is pretty gratifying to have some great friends in my life and that one friend. I pray that for anyone who is living a lifestyle like me and maybe not where they expected to be in their life, can think of the other great relationships in their lives and be grateful for those.
Happy Mother’s Day Mom…
